Not sure how many copies, and some people have told me they've gone to Amazon for used copies. I will know no later than Tuesday of next week how many students I have. I have my own hard copy, but it's in my bookshelves in Prescott, Arizona, and I am out here in Carmel for 8 months, where my husband got a job recently. Anyway, that's odd agents aren't interested in that. I think it's an amazing and important book.

Best, Melanie

Melanie,
Thank you for using my book! Amazon has some used copies for sale, and so does Powell's online. Also, I have some hardback copies I could sell you from my bookshelf. How many are you looking for? I really appreciate your note--I've been planning a second edition (the introduction is sadly out of date since we've been at war for some years now, for one thing, and then there's so much amazing new memoir work), but haven't found an agent interested in the idea yet. All best, Kathryn

Kathryn,
I am using your book, Survival Stories, for a memoir class I'm teaching here in Carmel, California, and was shocked to find out from our local bookseller that is out of print! Seriously? How can I get my hands on some copies? My students need to purchase it.
Why would they let such an amazing and necessary anthology go out of print?
Hope you get this note. I'll look for you on FB, too.

[...] Home is a thing that’s hard for me to define. There are places that feel like home and can be clearly defined that way: my family’s house in Gettysburg, for sure. It is the address I put for “permanent address” on forms, it is the place where I can stay up until 4 AM and walk around in my underwear without worrying. It is where my parents, brothers, and pets live, it is where I spend my breaks from school. Having just left it, I do feel homesick.
